Directorate General of Vigilance (DGV)
DG Vigilance
Adoption of anti-corruption policies that promote the participation of society and reflect the principles of the rule of law. Proper management of the public affairs and public property, integrity, transparency and accountability is extremely important for efficient functioning of any Government Department, particularly the Revenue Collection Departments. In the Department of Central Excise & Customs, Directorate General of Vigilance is assigned the onerous responsibility of acting as a watchdog for this purpose by implementing the policies for strengthening not only the punitive but also the preventive vigilance set up.
Directorate General of Vigilance performs the following functions on behalf of the CBIC:
(a) Monitor the Vigilance cases against the officers of customs and central excise formations;
(b) Maintain proper surveillance on the officials of doubtful integrity; and,
(c) Maintain close liaison with the Central Bureau of Investigation to ensure that the programmes on Vigilance and anti-corruption are implemented in all Customs, Central Excise and Narcotics formations.
Based on cadre review proposals 2010.
