Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGSTI)
DG GST Intelligence
Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), headed by Director General, was the apex intelligence organization under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) for detecting evasion of Central Excise duties and Service Tax. The directorate has been renamed as
Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGSTI) after the roll out of GST in the country. DGGSTI gathers intelligence relating to evasion of Central Excise duties and Goods and Services Tax and disseminates it to the field formations besides taking up cases having major inter-state ramifications.
Rapid liberalization of Indian economy and its gradual integration with the world economy has resulted in rapid growth in services as well as manufacturing sectors. The said growth has necessitated closer monitoring of new nerve centers of economy. Need for closer monitoring of these booming sectors of economy has cast upon the Directorate General of GST Intelligence an onerous responsibility of checking and preventing misuse of the liberalized economic environment by unscrupulous and manipulative elements in the trade and industry.
